News / Wrenbridge Sport and L&G Agree a Deal with Zizzi in York

The commercial development at York Stadium Leisure Complex is set to welcome another household name as Wrenbridge Sport and L&G, advised by Curson Sowerby Partners, announce a 3,221 sq ft deal with Azzurri Restaurant Group for a new Zizzi’s restaurant.

The 8,000 seat stadium, which is under construction and due to open Summer 2019, will be home to the city’s football and rugby league clubs.  The project is being delivered by the City of York Council, Greenwich Leisure Limited and Wrenbridge Sport with construction partner, Buckingham Group.

It includes a new leisure centre with gym and fitness studios, swimming pools, sports hall, clip and climb and external 3G sports pitches.  The commercial element has been funded by Legal and General’s Leisure Fund and includes a 13 screen Cineworld cinema, Hollywood Bowl bowling centre and indoor mini golf.  The new Zizzi restaurant will sit alongside TGI Fridays.

Andrew Ferguson, Senior Fund Manager, Legal & General commented “We are delighted with the addition of Zizzi to the tenant line-up. Whilst sentiment in the wider restaurant market remains uncertain, the commitment from one of the best performing restaurant groups, the Azzurri Group, to Vangarde Leisure, is testament to the strength of the location and belief in the scheme. We are thoroughly looking forward to the scheme opening and welcoming customers to enjoy all the leisure facilities on offer”.

Ewen McLeod of Wrenbridge Sport commented “This is an excellent addition to the scheme and we were delighted to get this over the line.  We are expecting to hand the unit over this Autumn so Zizzi can fit out and open at the same time as the cinema.”

Councillor Nigel Ayre, Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism said: “It is great that another nationally recognised business has joined the commercial development associated with the York Stadium Leisure Complex. With an 8,000 seat stadium, leisure facilities, a community hub and the growing leisure and restaurant offer, once complete there really will be something for everyone to enjoy.”

Councillor Ian Gillies, Leader of City of York Council said: “With new jobs being created and the considerable investment that is being made across the site, it will bring significant, long lasting economic benefits to the city. We are delighted to welcome Zizzi as the latest addition to the York Stadium Leisure Complex.”
